When standard profiles and stock dimensions don't fit the job, our custom millwork program puts the full capability of a commercial moulding plant behind your project. Any pattern, any species, any dimension—milled to your exact specifications.
How Custom Millwork Works
Custom millwork starts with a profile drawing or a sample piece. If you have an existing piece of trim, siding, or flooring that needs to be matched, send us a cross-section photo or ship us a short sample. Our mill team will create a knife profile that replicates the original pattern. If you're designing from scratch, provide a dimensioned drawing (even a hand sketch works) and we'll confirm feasibility and pricing before production begins.
Setup Fee
Every custom profile requires a standard $150 one-time setup fee to cover the cost of grinding new cutter knives to your specification. Once the knives are ground, they are stored for future reorders at no additional setup cost.
Any Species
Custom profiles can be run in any species we stock or can source. Common requests include:
- Eastern White Pine – economical, paintable, easy to machine
- Western Red Cedar – natural rot resistance for exterior applications
- Cypress – durable heartwood for siding, trim, and outdoor use
- Poplar – tight grain, excellent paint-grade interior trim
- White Oak – water-resistant hardwood for flooring and cabinetry
- Ipe & Cumaru – tropical hardwoods for exterior cladding and trim
- Walnut, Cherry, Hickory – specialty hardwoods for architectural details
Any Dimension
We can mill profiles from rough stock as thin as 3/8" and as thick as 3" (8/4 rough). Standard widths run up to 12", though wider panels can be produced by edge-gluing. Maximum length depends on species availability, but most domestic softwoods are available in lengths to 16 feet and tropical hardwoods to 20 feet.
Common Custom Applications
- Historic restoration – matching original millwork profiles in older homes and buildings where the pattern has been out of production for decades.
- Architectural accents – one-of-a-kind crown molding, chair rail, and baseboard profiles designed by your architect.
- Proprietary products – builders and contractors who want a signature siding or trim profile exclusive to their projects.
- Odd dimensions – non-standard thicknesses and widths for furniture, cabinetry, and marine applications.
Minimums & Lead Time
Custom millwork orders have a minimum run of 200 linear feet per species and profile. Customers must calculate a strict 10% overage into their initial order to account for unavoidable mill trim-backs, defecting, and job-site waste. If a customer orders exactly the minimum and the mill trims 10 feet to remove a defect, the customer arrives on site short of material. Secondary small-batch runs required to finish a job will incur a new, full $150 setup fee.
Lead time is typically 2–3 weeks from order confirmation, though rush orders may be accommodated depending on mill capacity. Contact us with your project details for a firm quote and timeline.
